150 of YOUR Favorite Blogs, and My NEW Favorite 9

Well, if you’re a regular here, you’ll know why I haven’t posted in more than a week – I’ve been buried in the great links you’ve sent over. Wow am I grateful for everyone’s time submitting their favorites. My plan was always to organize ‘em, but I had no idea there would a)be so many and b)of such a high quality… So that said, I did chuck ‘em into three categories: photography, design, and pop culture. There could have been more categories (music, science, tech, NSFW, etc), but I settled on three, because it felt right. It’s an amalgamation (and culling of duplicates) of 150 of links submitted as YOUR favorites. Remember, this is YOUR list. As promised, I visited every single one. Many were already on my list of my regulars, but lots were not. And I only had to chuck out a couple insincere links. Overall, I can’t thank you enough for the inspiration and the new reading material – and props for coming together as a community; this is a great resource.

Read to the bottom for my favorites and some more really cool link pools (And don’t forget, free Tshirts to those readers who recommended my fav NEW selections found at the bottom – you’ll need to ping me with your mailing address).

Okay now. I can’t string this out any longer. In exploring all these blogs, I learned a few things:

1. I like photoblogs. This is new for me. I used to not like them at all.
2. I’m a sucker for design blogs.
3. I like knowing what you like, and I like that it’s all over the map. Proof that we cat get inspired from so many sources.

Anyway, remember, many of the blogs you listed above are incredible, but they were already on my list of daily visits… This list below represents new discoveries–my new favorites of your suggestions. Thanks to this community I now get to enjoy:

If you’re the author of one of these blogs, thanks for the inspiration. Amazing stuff. If you suggested I read one of these blogs, feel free to ping me for a t-shirt.

Now since we’re on a roll, I figured what the hell: Here are a few more blogs that are on my list of regulars that weren’t mentioned above. Some are blow-your-mind cool, others are just some friend sites – either way, you might find a nugget in here:

Anthem Magazine Blog
Boing Boing
David Airey :: Creative Design ::
James Duncan Davidson
LightSource Studio Photography Podcast
Seth’s Blog
State of the Art
The BUILD Blog
The Incoherent Geek
The KEXP Blog

If you want to fill your Google Reader or other RSS Aggregator with all these links from this community’s master list above, check back in 24 hours. I’ll tie all these up via OPML first thing in the morning.

UPDATE– OPML IS HERE: www.chasejarvis.com/google_reader.xml

NOW, THE WRAP UP. Lastly, and perhaps the coolest aspect of this whole dealio, is that this little My New Favorite Blog post from two weeks ago seems to have inspired a slew of photography-related link pools, site lists, and blog aggregates this past week from several other talented bloggers. A handful have done an amazing job. While I didn’t edit your lists on principle, these friends below went thru plenty of additional work to pare it down for you…so check ‘em out too. It’s no surprise, they’re all on the list:

-Epic Edits Weblog has 87 Favorite Photo Blogs
-A Photo Editor has launched a new feature site that allows you to rank Photo Blogs and such
-Martin Gommel’s Kwerfeldein.de has posted 99 Photographer Portfolios
-My pal David Airey did a nice one for graphic design blogs too.

Have a great week.

    Hey Chase,

I hope all’s well with you buddy.

Thanks for the kind mention here, and it’s a pleasure to know you’re still checking my site out from time to time.

You might already have seen that I’m on a break now until around Christmas time, so if you get in touch, and don’t hear from me, it’s certainly not that I’m ignoring you.

    Ciao for now.

  2. Fly on the Wall November 19, 2007 at 7:35 am #

great post. I’ve just lost two hours looking at it all.

  3. Brian Auer November 19, 2007 at 7:38 am #

Wow Chase, this is a serious list your readers have put together! After I go through all of these links, I’m sure I’ll have many more than 87 photography blogs in my reader. What’s cool to see is that I recognize many of the sites in these lists.

  4. Anonymous November 19, 2007 at 8:27 am #

Gasp. Wow. That is a seriously cool list.

  5. Anonymous November 19, 2007 at 8:44 am #

  9. Todd W. November 19, 2007 at 10:31 am #

Sad to see Gallery Hopper missing from the list.

    Must. Post. More. Often.

  10. Chase Jarvis November 19, 2007 at 10:54 am #

@ Todd: Drat, man. I LOOOOVE Gallery Hopper. In fact, I gave a shoutout to Gallery Hopper 2 posts ago when discussing Camille Seaman. I don’t go there everyday, cause I don’t have a place in NYC (yet ;), but I visit at least once every other week to tune in. There’s no doubt you’ve got a great thing going

I bet our back and forth here, coupled with you posting it back in the comments on the original My New Favorite Blog (people are still posting lots of new stuff there several times per day now…) post, will get your site on the radar of this community. Thanks for commenting here – it’s a waaay worthy addition.

Additionally, I have noticed your blog expanding to other, more broad stuff, which is really cool (eg. I’m a huge Errol Morris fan) – NICE! So it’s becoming other things for me too…but it will always be my go to NYC gallery, fine art home base.

  11. John Harrington November 19, 2007 at 11:19 am #

Photo Business Forum didn’t make the list.

  12. Chase Jarvis November 19, 2007 at 11:50 am #

@ John: Got missed by the community the first tiem around, but it’s here now – which is good. Glad you chimed in. Photo Business Forum is John’s blog, and it’s a killer resource. It’s not new to me, but I like and respect it very much. I send peeps there often.

Remember friends – this isn’t MY list of 150 blogs, it’s yours. Let’s keep adding to it, here and at the original My New Favorite Blog post. There’s still beaucoup postings happening there every hour and it’s sure to be a great resource for a very long time to come.

    Hi Chase,

I’m glad you found so many cool photoblogs to visit and you’re right, what a great community we are. :-)

I was one of the lucky ones that gave you the links of your favorite 9 ([Daily dose of imagery], Deceptive Media, Smudo.org and Wink).

Those are some of my daily visits and inspiration, and because you loved them so much, I’ll leave here some more links that I didn’t post last time:

  39. Destry Jaimes February 16, 2008 at 8:35 pm #

    Hi Chase,

I know this is an older post, but since it’s raining off and on here in Austin today, I’ve been catching up on blogs right and left. During my reading, something (I don’t remember what), triggered a memory of a long forgotten favorite blog of mine, The Sneeze. I stumbled upon this humorous blog a few years back because of the very funny series entitled “Steve, Don’t Eat It!”

All of his posts are laugh worthy, and as I was reading the latest posts there, I remembered about this post of yours, and thought I’d share.

Hope you enjoy it on your next rainy day.

I really enjoy this list of sites. I find myself reading these a lot lately on my lunch hour and my prep period (yes, I am a teacher). I look for different angles to shoot what I shoot. I have very different subjects than a lot of other photographers here, but I am expanding my horizons. Here is my stuff:

Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your article seem to be running off the screen in Safari. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Thanks
