Chase Jarvis Videos on iTunes

11/26/2007 12:32:00 AM

I'm excited to report that we have an iTunes video podcast--in iPod/iPhone resolution (lower res) and AppleTV resolution (higher res)--available for download immediately for FREE. All our videos that have been posted to this blog are now available there (along with one that hasn't!). Check them out here:

Chase Jarvis iTunes Video Podcast for iPod/iPhone (Smaller file size)

Chase Jarvis iTunes Video Podcast for AppleTV
(Larger file size)

Hit the "subscribe" button to get the new episodes as they're posted.

We've actually had podcasts up there for a while as sort of a soft launch (for some basic testing and what not) without having posted it here; however, we learned recently (after getting a call from our host about a large bandwidth jump ;) that plenty of our friends had already "discovered" it and that downloads were whizzing along nicely. Hallelujah for the innernets!

For the record, we're still really pleased with the YouTube angle. But hopefully this popular, supplementary format works well for those of us who want to put some vids in our pocket for later. It can also be especially nice for being on the road, for the longer format stuff (like Chase Jarvis CURRENT: Photoshelter NYC), or for the stuff where it might be helpful to pause and rewind a bunch on a particular image to reverse engineer the lighting or whatnot, (eg. Chase Jarvis FRAMES: Hasselblad Masters.)

Anyway, if everything is working hunky dory and this new addition is a good thing let me know in the comments section below. Or, conversely, if anything is amiss please holler.

Great stuff Chase, anything that shaves time off my web usage can only be a good thing.

thanks Chase,

It's great to watch the video's in a higher resolution. I've been thinking for a while to do the same with my own photography video's.

Bert

Hmm. Choice was tough - higher res (I'm with bert - love the hi rez for photo pods!) OR Chase in my pocket? What to do?

I took the choice out of it and subscribed to both. The extra download on the iPhone version was small and worth it.

? for somebody - am I needing to do this or will Apple TV work on my pocket gadgets too?

Nice! Maybe it's an idea to post the direct URL of the feed for us non-iPod users (yeah, we exist). I found it via the 'description' of the feed in iTunes, but typing it in on my N95 takes so much time :)

@ Anon (KT): By my understanding, the Apple TV versions are optimized for specifically Apple TV in M4V format, meaning they wont work in your iPod/iPhone; BUT they will look great on a big computer screen or your AppleTV.

If you are primarily going to watch these on your handheld device I recommend using the smaller version, just for file size alone.

[aside, I have an AppleTV at home and we also roll with one at the studio - it's killer for downloading your fav vodcasts and having THAT be the TV you watch instead of the next dumb TV show that you'd have watched instead. Choose your content. eg. I really like the TEDtalks Videos. If I'm scarfing down some cereal in the morning and I have 20 minutes - I can check out something midful and enjoyable with the click of a pointer...]

HA! Cody and I just IM'd here in the office and posted the same thing...

Words are Cody's, so it's best that his name is up there first ;)

The Apple TV plug is worth noting, however. Saaweet.

Chase,
Great words of wisdom. I have been learning this last year I won't make it very far without other people. It was great to hear...and see that people are starting to understand this.

Nice one Chase.. I'll admit I'm one of the people that had already discovered it, had them in my iTunes for a couple of weeks now..

Looking forward to seeing more 'behind the scenes' videos as I think it's a valuable learning tool for a lot of us, not to mention the comic value in there too..haha

AppleTV?

Damn, and I just got a cable box for my TV-with-dials-and-no-remote.

Here I thought I was catching up, only to find I'm once again in the technology stone age!

Thought you guys might like this:

"Chase and Dartanyon-

The last couple of days the older webserver you are on has been under more
traffic it can handle and it seems to be due to the connections for the
podcasting. If you are going to do podcasting you will need to move the site
to the control/DA server. This older server does not have enough memory and
this has caused the whole server to go down a couple times in the past two
days. Could you stop the podcasting service for now and
migrate the site?

Brandon

Thank you for choosing Seanet!

Okay: Apparently these little podcasts have been hot commodities. GREAT NEWS, however, you probably read the comments above about the number of downloads and bandwidth CRUSHING the servers. We got numerous calls, even pleas, from the host... Stop the hemorrhage! Awesome indication of the interest there is in this stuff--which motivates us to do MORE and BETTER, but for now we really just want you to have fast downloads with no errors. SO, after much collaboration with the host - we're officially migrated now on their most badass server. You should be able to hammer 'em, so thanks for your continuing spreading of the word (and work), everything should be flowing like wine.

Hey Chase,

I just tied to subscribe to the ipod/iphone versions of the podcasts, but all of them seem to have been moved or are no longer available via the . I can get the apple tv versions, but i was really hoping for the more iphone (read 8GB) friendly version.

anyway, thanks for even doing this in the first place! i can't wait to see more.

@ everybody - seanet is STILL unable to keep up, however, I recommend trying to download at off hours until 18 January when we hope to be completely migrated to a new host. I just downloaded them and they worked well. Anybody else having good luck/results?
