Updated iPhone Portfolio

Thanks to your feedback from this post a couple weeks ago, I updated my iphone photo portfolio today. Please take a spin thru. And in keeping with the spirit of this post, feel free to tell me which ones you like, but be sure to tell me at least one that sucks and how it could be improved.

I'm rotating the content of these portfolios quite frequently now--finally letting go of the drama associated with "a portfolio"--so I'll continue to keep you posted.

Anonymous said...: Your iPhone portfolio is really great. There is something I wonder about though. To me all the pix look all a bit more melancholic and moody (and I love that) than your typical "Chase" shots on your website. Is that just me or is it really so?

Picture life on an island... said...: Love the kaleidoscope-ish #3, and the (lonely) contrast of #13. (Also love the lime green Weber simply because it makes me really want a lime green Weber). And the hotel lobby lights still make me dizzy (and I like it).; 3:46 PM

Your iPhone portfolio is very inspiring and has actually motivated me to add some Apps to my own iPhone for processing images.

If I had to chose an image I wasn't fond of, it would be number 7. The sign and the factory seem to compete for my attention and so it's a distraction for me.

David Burke said...: I can't say that any of them suck, but if I had to choose 1 it would be #7. I think it would benefit without the sign in the foreground of the image. The Factory itself makes the image.

uploaded using twitterfon to my @chasejarvis account, use facebook mobile app for the facebook stuff. and move images thru via aperture or iphoto to get images to my livebooks website.; 9:24 PM

I have taken lots of photos with the iPhone myself, but never too seriously.. mostly snapshots of things 'on the way' when my camera was out of reach. Might 'steal' your idea and use this as a tool myself though- if you don't mind (and with that I mean, doing the daily iPhone photo, because pressuring myself to try and make something as often as possible is usually very motivating)

But tell me - how do you do the pictures with sharp focus in one small area, and the rest out of focus? There's one of spoons and a plane window that seem to do this. Is this done with software?; 5:23 AM

Your I phone portfolio is pretty cool and has a lot of different posts that flow together and have a similar feel to them. You use a lot of LINE and shape in these photographs. There are a few however, that are still great photos but I do not think belong with the others. I think they ruin the cool flow I get from the others. Like I said cool photos, but no flow (like Zack A would say ;)

They are Bird with blinds #2 - no 'artistic feel' for me. Just a bird on a gross color blinds.

#18, 19, 20 (van, restaurant booth, natasha left)- they all seem to kinda go together and perhaps with the motel pic as well. They are all faded looking but they do not have that Line and shape abstract fine art quality the other images have. If it were me, I would ditch.

Same with # 24 breakfast face..

Anyways, I can't say enough about how much I love your photography and feel like a douch critiqing a great pro like yourself. I mean, come on like who am I? Just another photographer trying to make it. And don't worry, my stuff is not up to par yet on my websites and I know it could you a lot of cleaning up. Hope things are well with you!

Two Sheds said...: I dig the picture of the shoes on the moving walkway. Simplicity in patterns, something I seem to forget time to time looking for a great picture. The whole gallery seems to have an organic feel, a "hey look at that" if you will, except the picture of the bamboo in the mirror. It feels staged.

On another note I came across your stuff via Joe Mcnally's blog. And this iPhone gallery was just the thing I needed to get me out of a creative rut. Great work all around. Cheers.; 6:10 PM
