I really enjoy all the blog post you put up, but I don't understand in this one why you say a technically correct image is boring. That is kind of like saying an overexposed high contrast image is crappy. There is a time and place for each, but I wouldn't generalize each as boring and crappy.

anyway...just wondering.

... very curious ... personally, I don't think this is a 'knock out' shot either way. You've done better - more intriguing 'raw visuals' with much greater impact.

Still, thanks for sharing ...

You ARE an constant inspiration Chase, regardless of what you 'goof around' with ...

How much of the post processing are you personally involved in? Do you do any of it, or just put the image in Scott or Dartanyon's very capable hands and let them have at it? Do you sit with them while they work on it, or do they show you what they've done and you give them feedback on what tweaks to make? Or are you all at the point where they pretty much know what you want and you trust them to realize your final vision on their own? Obviously it's been a while since this image was taken, so your process I'm sure has changed some since then...

Thanks for the deconstruct. I think one the most beneficial aspects of your deconstructs is that it shows that very creative photos can be done in camera using your quiver of techniques. It is very interesting how many readers assume that the shot was composited in photoshop. Your "old school" approach definitely illustrates your true professional skill. Thanks and keep up the great work!

I'm curious as to why you used Photoshop for the post instead of Aperture?

(I was under the impression that you were an Aperture house.) I use one of Aperture's competitors, and do the kind of post you describe here as part of my normal workflow, so it surprises me to see someone go to PS for this.
